Precision Customization & Installation of Natural Stone Flooring for International Aviation Hubs
Client: Frankfurt Airport•Aug 15, 2026

1. Project Background & Architectural Challenges
As one of Europe’s busiest aviation transit hubs, Frankfurt Airport required a flooring solution that combines a warm, welcoming atmosphere with extreme heavy-duty durability. Moving away from cold polished granites, architectural specs designated authentic German Natural Stone.
The main technical challenges involved:
- Extreme Dynamic Traffic: Withstanding high footfall, rolling luggage, and heavy maintenance machinery.
- Multi-Width Staggered Planking: Executing precise variable-width planking (300mm / 400mm / 500mm) with strict joint tolerances under 2.0 mm.
- Safety & Comfort: Achieving an R10+ anti-slip rating while providing an anti-glare, matte finish suitable for high-light glass terminal interiors.
2. Custom Fabrication & Technical Solutions
- Block Selection & Color Grading: Direct quarry block selection paired with optical shade sorting to guarantee seamless visual transitions over thousands of square meters.
- 5-Axis CNC Fabrication: Cutting edge straightness and squareness maintained within ±0.5mm tolerance.
- Surface Engineering: Special Honed & Brushed finishing with 6-side deep penetrating anti-stain sealant.
- Structural Integration: 30mm thick slabs customized to handle thermal expansion with integrated underfloor heating systems.

3. On-Site Installation & Execution
- 1:1 Laser Grid Alignment: Aligning stone joints precisely with building axes, column grids, and rental counters.
- Multi-Width Staggered Laying: Eliminating grid monotony while enhancing spatial depth.
- Seamless Grouting: Monitored with total stations (2m straightedge deviation ≤ 1mm) and finished with color-matched high-strength epoxy resin.
4. Project Delivery & Value
The warm matte Natural Stone creates an elegant contrast against sleek black metallic structures, natural wood counters, and glass facades. After years of heavy passenger footfall, the flooring exhibits zero cracking, chipping, or staining—earning high praise from general contractors and project owners alike.
